Happy Sunday and welcome to Part 3 of the “Did You Know” series as we talk about dimensionals. In Part 1, I talked about using Stampin’ Up! terminology and assuming my followers know what I’m talking about. Not so fast!
What is a Dimensional?
That’s the very question my granddaughter asked me while watching one of my early YouTube videos. I was shocked. Doesn’t everyone know about dimensionals? They don’t. So here we go.
A definition first. A dimensional is a double-sided adhesive foam shape that adds depth and dimension to paper crafts. You might hear them referred to as “pop dots” at times. They are an easy, inexpensive way to enhance a flat paper project and turn it into a multi-dimensional work of art!
Which Dimensional to Choose?
Stampin’ Up! offers four types of dimensionals. In the same way a carpenter or chef has specific tools for specific tasks, dimensionals offer choices depending on your project!
Stampin’ Dimensionals are double-sided adhesive foam DOTS and are great for heavier embellishments. They form an instant bond, are acid-free, and come in two sizes (3/8” and 1/4″). The larger ones (300/pack) and the mini ones (720/pack) are $4/pack. These should be in every paper crafter’s bag of basics!
Black Stampin’ Dimensionals are DOTS like those above but are made to blend when using darker cardstock. They offer height without a bright white edge detracting from the beauty of the project. Each pack contains a mixture of large and mini sizes (200 large/480 mini) and is $6.
Foam Adhesive Strips are the third type of dimensional. When making shaker cards or using long accents, these are perfect! The STRIPS are 1/8” x 9” and there are 10 yards of strips in a pack for $8.
Our new Foam Adhesive Sheets are quickly becoming a favorite! These double-sided adhesive foam SHEETS can be cut with Paper Snips or open dies and create a solid backing behind larger pieces. In the past, I would use so many of the dimensional dots that I almost created a solid backing so this saves me time and money! The sheets are 4-1/2” x 4-5/16” (6 sheets/pack) and are $8.
So now, all you wanted to know (and more) about dimensionals. These are a basic for any level paper crafter!
